Purpose: To explain first steps in troubleshooting issues with games from the Riot Games developer.
Summary:
This guide is made when you run into an issue playing any games related to Riot Games or launching their client as it can be inflicted with bugs often. The client is usually updated with new problems to be found.
Causes:
Riot Games chooses to release live update games which often come with frequent patches. These patches can introduce new code and features to the client or the games themselves which can in turn cause issues for your PC to interact with the games or software.
" League of Legends periodically releases patches that include fixes, improvements, and new content. Below is the link to patch schedule for 2025. Patches release on a Wednesday (PT) unless otherwise indicated. "
First Steps:
To start understanding the issue you may be having, try the below steps.
Check for Updates:
Open the Riot Client
Select the game from the side that is having issues and see if it starts updating/patching.
Otherwise, if no updates are available it should just show play.
You can turn on automatic updates in settings. To do so click 
Then click the option 
Then click the checkbox to enable automatic updates.
Use the built-in repair tool:
Riot provides a built-in repair button in the client to use.
Navigate to it by clicking
Then click the option
Then click the repair button after selecting the game you need from the left most menu.
Go back into the game or client and try to see if the error still occurs.
Gathering Logs:
Riot recently sunsetted the Hextech Repair Tool in favor of the Riot Repair Tool.

Download the program for your operating system:
Follow the installation process, the RRT recommends allowing it to run as an administrator.
Select the game(s) you want to pull the logs from. Then click start.
Depending on how many logs it needs to pull will depend on how long it takes. During this process it should create a folder on your desktop to store those logs.
When completed, it will give you a list of what logs were pulled and to send these files to Riot via their support.
Open a Support Ticket:
When all else fails, its easier to open a support ticket to see if something else is going on behind the scenes. Make sure that the game you are trying to play doesn't currently have an outage by visiting the Riot Games service status page.
